Arbuckle Area Council's Camp Simpson is located east of Connerville, Oklahoma,
in Johnston County, and is actually near Bromide, Oklahoma which is North of Tishomingo or South of Ada, Oklahoma. All the wonder and beauty of the great outdoors is available at Camp Simpson. Covering approximately 2,042 acres, Camp Simpson offers 12 campsites surrounded by trees, hills and foliage, all of which provide a natural setting for plants and wildlife.
Below are some of the facilities Camp Simpson has to offer.


J. HOYLE CARLOCK, JR. LODGE

The J. Hoyle Carlock, Jr. Lodge or better known as the Carlock Lodge is the premier conference facility in the region, seating more than 130 people in the Great Room dining area which includes a working fireplace and central heat and air. The Carlock Lodge has a full industrial kitchen, conference room, first-aid room, and restrooms. There is also a large uncovered porch and a huge barbecue grill on the north side of the building. Carlock Lodge also has 3 adjoining motel-style rooms each with 2 queen size beds and a bathroom. The rooms are equipped with central heat and air and for a small additional fee, the use of the Carlock kitchen is available.

RV SITES

Camp Simpson has four RV Site Hook-ups. Electricity and water hookups are available. There is no sewer or dump site available. RV sites are located close to Carlock Lodge.


MATTHEWS HALL

Matthews Hall is a rock building that was built in the early 1930's. It was the Dining Hall when Camp Simpson first opened but has now been converted into a bunkhouse dormitory which sleeps 34 people. It has INDOOR bath facilities which includes four showers. Matthews Hall has ceiling fans, heat and a fireplace as well as a covered porch.

PHIL-KIT HALL

Phil-Kit Hall is a rock building that served as the craft area and trading post during the early years of Camp Simpson. It is now a bunkhouse dormitory which sleeps 32 people. Phil-Kit Hall has OUTDOOR showers and latrines. It also has ceiling fans and a fireplace as well as a covered front porch.

CHAPMAN PAVILION

Chapman Pavilion is a covered pavilion which houses picnic tables and provides a place to hold picnics, family outings, crafts or other Scouting activities and is located close to the Cub Scout Fire Ring area and flagpoles just across the road from Phil-Kit Hall and Matthews Hall.


CASPER DUFFER LODGE

The Casper Duffer Lodge has a small furnished kitchen, large furnished "living room" area, 2 restrooms, 1 shower and sleeps 6 people on 2 bunk beds and 1 Queen size sleeper sofa. Duffer Lodge has a 1-1/2 bath with a shower only. It has ceiling fans and a fireplace as well as covered front and back porches .


CHOCTAW STAFF HUTS

Choctaw Campsite has eight huts/cabins that sleep three in each. Each cabin has electricity. Shower and latrine facilities are nearby.


MABEE DINING HALL

The state of the art Mabee Dining Hall also known as the Main Dining Hall is the center for all food and dining activities for Camp Simpson Summer Camp. The Dining Hall seats 225 people and contains a large kitchen, restrooms and sleeping quarters for the cooks. It is well ventilated with many ceiling fans and windows and also has a fireplace.

COPE COURSE

Camp Simpson has one of the premier C.O.P.E. facilities in the state. Rappelling as well as low and high C.O.P.E. courses complete a challenging program that anyone will love. For more information, check out our C.O.P.E. webpage.


CAMPSITES

Camp Simpson has 12 campsites. They are Apache, Huron, Blackfoot, Gila, Fox, Delaware, Erie, Seminole, Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, Comanche. Each site has running water except during the winter season and is equipped with its own lane. All campsites have latrines and picnic tables. There are four hot water shower facilities available throughout the camp (Tater Hill Shower is pictured below).


All of the above facilities may be reserved in any combination and are available to both Scout and non-scout groups. Contact the Arbuckle Area Council Office for more information on price and availability.


OTHER FEATURES OF CAMP SIMPSON



ARCHERY RANGE

The Camp Simpson Archery Range shooting area is housed under a covered pavilion. The Archery Range provides several types of target shooting.

CARL CUMPTON RIFLE RANGE

The Carl Cumpton Rifle Range is housed under a covered pavilion and contains tables and shooting/resting benches. The rifle/shotgun area provides a realistic setting for .22 rifle or shotgun for target or skeet and black powder for experienced shooters.


BRUSH ARBOR

Camp Simpson and Wisawanik Lodge 190 is proud to have a wonderful Brush Arbor. The Brush Arbor is located next to the Casper Duffer Lodge and the COPE course.


CHOATE CHAPEL

Choate Chapel is an outdoor chapel overlooking the McClintock Arena/Outdoor Amphitheater, Lake Sam Noble and the Indian Outpost Camp across the lake.


COMMISSIONER'S SITE

The Commissioner's Site is located near Casper Duffer Lodge and is the center for the Nature Activities during Summer Camp. The site contains a covered pavilion and picnic tables.

CUB SCOUT ARCHERY RANGE

The Cub Scout Archery Range is located behind the Carlock Lodge. The facility is used mainly during Cub Scout Family Weekends.


CUB SCOUT BB GUN RANGE

The Cub Scout BB Gun Range provides a safe place for Cub Scouts to learn to shoot a BB Gun under supervision.


CUB SCOUT OBSTACLE COURSE

The Cub Scout Obstacle Course provides a fun activity for Cub Scouts any time of year.


CUB SCOUT AQUATICS AREA

The Cub Scout Aquatics Area is a shallow concrete based swimming area located at the low water dam. The area has a covered pavilion and picnic tables. Facilities nearby include the Cub Scout Fire Ring, Chapman Pavilion, Phil-Kit Hall & Matthews Hall.

LAKE SAM NOBLE

Lake Sam Noble is a pristine 130 acre lake boasting "uncatchable" limits of large-mouth bass, crappie, sun-fish, bluegills and channel catfish. Lake Sam Noble also has an enclosed concrete base area for beginner swimmers, a lifeguard tower, fishing/boating docks, floating dock, two covered pavilions with picnic tables and beautiful views.

McCLINTOCK ARENA - OUTDOOR AMPHITHEATER

The McClintock Arena - Outdoor Amphitheater overlooking Lake Sam Noble is the centerstage for Closing Ceremonies each Friday night during Camp Simpson Summer Camp.


SAM McDANIEL ACTIVITY PAVILION

The Sam McDaniel Activity Pavilion contains the Camp Simpson Trading Post and Craft area.


SWINGING BRIDGE

Camp Simpson's famous "Swinging Bridge" and a view to the south of it looking toward the low-water dam which is the Cub Scout Swimming area.

CAMP EQUIPMENT

Canoes, Rowboats, Two-man bass boats (electric motor), Five-Man Paddle boats, Mini Sailboats, Wall Tents, Bed/Cots-Mattresses, Dining Fly.

CAMP ENTERTAINMENT

Sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, basketball, Rifle/BB Gun Range, Archery Range,
2 swimmming areas, COPE and obstacle course.


MERRICK MAINTENANCE BUILDINGS

The Merrick Maintenance Building and Goddard Storage Building are located behind the Camp Ranger's House and are used for Camp Maintenance.

Make sure to stop by the Camp Simpson Ranger's House to check in and out of Camp.

Boy Scout Summer Camp conjures up images of outback experiences and the mystery of the outdoors. Camp Simpson is that and much more. Scout camp is a jam-packed week of adventure, good times, learning and fun. Program areas at Camp Simpson include:

A Full Waterfront area offers fishing, swimming, lifesaving, rowing, canoeing, sailing, electric motor boating, snorkeling, and BSA Lifeguard.

The Shooting Skills area offers 22 caliber rifle, shotgun, black powder rifle, and archery. The primary purpose of the Field sports/Shooting Skills area is to teach the fundamentals of safety and proper use of sporting arms.

The Outdoor Skills area prides itself on diversity. We offer camping, wilderness survival, orienteering, cooking, emergency preparedness, environmental science, first-aid, fish and wildlife management, soil and water conservation, forestry, geology, nature, mammals, reptile and amphibian study, pioneering and weather.

New Scouts will enjoy our program where a new scout can learn the skills needed to advance.

Check out the Indian Outpost Camp where 3 live-in hosts offer Native American games, skills and Indian Lore. Also enjoy fishing and woodcarving there.

We have a fully stocked trading post where leatherwork and basketry are taught. Play a bit of horseshoes or volleyball while you're there.

Each night is filled with campfires, shows and/or stories. The state of the art Mabee Dining hall is the center for all food and dining activities.
